Week 19: San Crystobal, Villahermosa & Frontera Corozal

On the first day of week 19 we were in Peurto Escondido and took a bus overnight to San Crystobal. What we did first in San Crystobal was go on a walking tour. Out of all the walking tours we’ve done, this one was probably the best! We ate food with some fun facts in the background, some of the food we ate was:

  • grasshoppers!!! ( they were the worst thing ever!!!!! )
  • tomales
  • pinapple mango
  • bananas
  • chocolate
  • pox ( pronounced p-o-sh )

My favorite thing was the chocolate, but my mum and dad’s favourite was the pinapple mango. On the tour we learnt how a carved-in frog was on the main street, and we got to see it!! We also learnt that 29 languages are spoken in San Crystobal!!!!!!!!! Now that’s impresive. At the end of the tour we found another family of three that were gringos. So we askeed if they wanted to join us for dinner. And they said… Sorry, I’ve just got to remember their answer…… Ummmmmmmm….. Ok, got it….. they said….. Yes!!!!!!!! So that night we had some nice but not the best Mexican. But it still had a really nice vibe. Then after dinner we went to bed.

The next day we went on the most funnest tour ever!!!! What we were going to do for the day was… Go to ancient pyramids, go in a cenote (massive pool that had cool rock jumps!), and swim in waterfalls. All of it was so much fun. So we first started the day by going to the ancient pyramids. They had sooooooo many stairs. At the top of the biggest pyramid I was terrified because I am now afraid of heights after the flying ride in 6 Flags. Anyway, on the way down from the biggest pyramid I found a diamond!!! So I put it in mum’s pants so I wouldn’t lose it. Then after the ancient pyramids we went to the cenote!!! That was the thing I was looking foward to the whole tour. At the cenote we jumed in straight away because we were all so hot. After a little while in the water my dad and I decided to go on one of the rock jumps. And by far we went the 20 minute way accidentally instead of the less than 2 minute way. And our way had cactus, spicky sticks, and pointy rocks that really hurt your feet. Anyway, finally at some point we were counting down 3,2,1…….. And then there was a massive SPLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was really fun. Totally worth the nearly bleeding feet. Then after my favourite thing so far we went to the waterfalls!!!! But wait….. Waiting, waiting……… We had to walk about 3 km. I know I may have been on a 64 km hike but that was a long time ago so it was a nightmare going up all of the stairs. But at some point we got to the top, and it was beautiful. My favourite part about the top was how we got wet. It was amazing. Then we started to head back down towards the swiming waterfalls. YES!!!! It. Was. AMAZING. So cold and refreshing. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! It was a dream come true. Anyway, after the most refreshing thing ever, the tour was sadly, nearly over. WWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Ooh and I forgot to tell you how we met some really nice people in the tour that we have seen before on bus rides!!! Their names are Sara and Tidis and they are from Holland (but they still had really good English). We then went home. But we still got to have dinner. It was really nice.

Guess what? We got to see Sara and Tidis the next day on a boat tour in the middle of a cliff! It was beautiful. So there we were on a boat going through cliffs with monkeys, crocodiles, and so many more cool animals. On the way we saw that there was a rock jump that was illegal that was like 20 or more metres above the water!!!! Even I wouldn’t do it. And I do big rock jumps. Anyway, sorry I don’t have any fun facts for you. It’s just because all of the fun facts were in Spanish, and I’m not that good so we couldn’t understand a word the driver was saying. So that means I just have to say that we then started to head back to shore, but it was still a fun day. Then after a sad goodbye we had CHILLLLLLL TTTIIIIIIMMMMMMEEEE!!! We then went to bed ready for the next day.

The next day we went on a bus ride to Villahermosa. But when we had arrived the car that we rented was not avalable!!!!!!!! Which ment we had to get a taxi to the most fanciest hotel ever!!!!! It was 5 whole stars!!!!!!!!! On the way to the fancy hotel I had just figured out how we had been staying in 2-3 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was devastated. Anyway, we were on our way to the fancy hotel and we had seen the most beautiful place ever, and then realised it was ours. It had a pool, comfy pillows and everything in your most wildest dreams. It was a dream come true. We then had a swim, had pizza and went to bed.

After the most wonderful sleep ever we headed to the next place that was literally a jungle!!! It was soooooo cool. And it also had some really cool animals that lived there like:

  • toucans
  • howler monkeys
  • spider monkeys
  • pumas
  • squirrels

And so many more cool animals!!! It was a dream home.

On Sunday we had a driving day, but before the driving we went on a boat ride to the Yaxchilan pyramids. They were really big and had cool carvings on it. It was so cool. There was also dark tunnles that only dad went in because it was super scary in there. We then started to head back to the house. But sadly we had to leave. WWWWAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, we were on our way to the last place we were going to stay in for in week 19.

And that was how we ended our week.

Fun facts:

What is a cenote?

Answer: A cenote is basically a giant sinkhole in the ground resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock. Most cenotes in Mexico are filled with fresh water, making them ideal swimming holes.

Why did the Mayans build pyramids instead of cubes?

Answer: The shape of a pyramid allows weight to be distributed evenly throughout the structure. Most of the weight in a pyramid is on the bottom and it decreases the higher you go. This allowed ancient civilizations to create huge structures of stone that were very sturdy.

What is the tallest waterfall in the world?

Answer: Angel Falls in Venezuela is considered the highest waterfall in the world, featuring a plunge of more than 800 meters.
