Week 43: Bonito & Iguaçu Falls

On the first day of week 43 we had arrived in a place called Bonito. Other than all of the tours that we did in Bonito, it was terrible. In English Bonito means beautiful, but this was the exact opposite! They tore their roads apart and the houses were broken down. It was so poor. And there were some houses that were so beautiful that it made other houses look like they weren’t there! It was so weird. Then we had arrived at our hostel. And it was spectacular. It had a pool, a bunk bed, and breakfast included! It was awesome. After checking in we went shopping to get new swimmers for mum and I. And it was a success. I got a pair and mum got 2. Then for the whole afternoon we were in the pool. For dinner we had this yummy food called açai. It is this purple stuff that tastes like ice cream, but it’s healthy! It was amazing. 🤤

The next day we went to this cool cave that had the clearest water I have ever seen. And l’ve seen some clear water. It was really nice going down into the cave because outside of the cave it was 40′, but inside of the cave it was 17′! It felt very nice. It is always the opposite in temperature because of the humidity. So if it is 10′ outside of the cave it would be 45′ inside of the cave. It was very cool. Then we started to head back out to 40′. It was very hot so mum got me un helado de coco (me a coconut ice cream 🍦). It was really nice. Then we went home to go back into the refreshing pool💧.

The next day we did 2 activities. Nosotros primaro una estuvo nada alberto el lago (Our first one was swimming down a river). It was so much fun. At the same time it was absolutely freezing 🥶. Luckily it was 38′ outside so I don’t think it was a huge problem🥵. Plus we weren’t just swimming down a river, we were snorkelling at the same time 🤿. So there was something interesting to entertain us while we were in the water. There was this one fish with these huge lips that kept on eating the sand and spitting it back out. It was so funny.

At the end of the snorkelling there was this platform that had millions of butterflies that you couldn’t even count them! I tried to put my hand underneath them to get a few on my hand and it worked! It was awesome.

This is not a time-lapse!

Then after all of the swimming we got to go to this place packed with hammocks. It was so cool. I made a playground there out of twigs and leaves and lots more stuff in the trees. Then out of the corner of my eye there was a King Parrot 🦜! He was so beautiful with all of his colours. There was purple, green, blue, yellow, red and so many more I can’t name them all because there were just so many. Then I started to go closer to him and he didn’t fly away. Then I kept on going closer and closer. I was so close that I pat him, and he liked it. Then he moved closer to me! Then I started to feed him this food that looked like mango 🥭. He was so hungry that he started to peck at my bracelet! It was so cool. I could have been there forever. But sadly we had to go to the next activity.

Our next activity was to watch rainbow birds flying on top of a sink hole 🌈🕊️🌀. We had to do a little walk to get there. But it was so worth it. They were everywhere. It was crazy. There was also a lot of pressure on dad because he was the one that was taking the photos. And he hadn’t got any good ones of them flying before. And this was definitely the place to get a good photo of them flying. So every time there was a macaw we would yell out “dad go go go!” 📷😂. He was so worried that he wouldn’t get a good one 😬. Luckily by the end of the day dad got a few compliments from mum and I for his excellent photos that he got 🥳😅.

Then we went for another swim at the pool and went into town just to see how it was going. We were so surprised. It was buzzing with people saying “cheers” and everyone laughing and loud music 🎷. I nearly couldn’t hear myself thinking 🤔. Then we got out of the sound to just sit and rest. But when we were ready we went back to danger zone 🏴‍☠️.

For dinner we went to an amazing açai place called The Best Açai. And the title was right. It was the best açai I have ever had. You could put all of these yummy toppings on like gummy worms, chocolate bars, a chocolate straw, mango, strawberries, icing and so much more. Of corse, I got all of the unhealthy toppings while mum got all the fruit possible 🥭🍓. I smashed mine as if it was an ice cream sundae with chocolate sprinkles on top. It was so good. Then we kept on looking for more pairs of swimmers for me👙. And it was another success. We got these cool retro ones with nice colours on them. It was one jam packed day 📦.

The next day we were sadly leaving Bonito and going to a place called Iguaçu. But to get there we had to go on an overnight bus ride, a 6 hour bus ride and a 1 hour taxi ride! It was hectic. Our hostel was very nice. It had a pool, great wifi, 8 beds, nice blankets and so much more 🛏️x8! It was awesome. To make a travel day fun we went to a place called Iguaçu falls. If you don’t know what Iguaçu Falls is read the next paragraph👇.

Iguaçu Falls is a variety of waterfalls that go across two countries. Those two countries are Argentina and Brazil 🇦🇷🇧🇷. It’s really cool.

There were a lot of walks you could do to get to the grand final area of Iguaçu falls. We did about 2 walks to get there. It had some pretty mind blowing falls 🤯. While I was enjoying the view dad was clicking away on his camera like crazy and mum was just making these weird noises like orhr and ahhn. Then after Iguaçu Falls we went to our hostel and dad and I went in the pool while mum made pesto pasta in the kitchen. After the pool and having dinner we all went into bed and watched a movie called Rio. It was really cool because we were going to a place called Rio in only a few days!

The next day we did Iguaçu falls again, except it was in a whole different country for all of us! We were also meeting up with some friends we made in the Secret Garden in blog post week number 36: Quitó, Cotopaxi, Baños & Chugchilán, called Celia and Mathias. It was really nice to catch up with them again 😊. Anyway, we were going to Argentina for the day. Sadly we didn’t get our passport stamped but there was something that you could do in Argentina that was very cool. You can stand in one country and be looking at another country at the same time 👀! It was awesome. These Iguaçu falls were even better because you could get closer and they were much bigger. If you fell off the edge it would be instant death 💀. Gram (my grandma) if you’re reading this don’t worry we made it back home 👍. It was actually pretty scary but awesome at the same time. Mum and dad had already been to Iguaçu falls, so they had seen all of the waterfalls before. They told me that it was way better than they remembered it last time they went. It is probably because the waterfalls get bigger the older they are. That is because the rocks on the waterfalls fall off or break, so that means more water flows down. It was a very fun day.

  1. Hi Livy! I can’t get over how incredible your photos are!!!!!!!! So beautiful. Even the funny shot of dad with his mouth wide open being drowned in waterfall overspray is just amazing.

I don’t think you will ever ever experience waterfalls like those ones anywhere else in the world- the force of the water is unbelievable!! I am so glad (and gram) to read you are safe back on dry land hahaha PHEW!

I love you new rad swimmers – super dooper cool 🙂 It has been really hot here lately (finally summer) so we got to use the pool last weekend and it was so lovely. Not as fun as your adventures though lol

    Love you all xx
